Interested in Therapy Services? Wait, how do I find a therapist?

You could go about finding a therapist in several ways.

  1. Referrals from medical professionals: One way would be to ask trusted medical providers or other professionals for therapy referrals. Health-care providers could serve as great resources to obtain referrals, the ones they would vouch for. It is important to ensure that the therapist will be able to accept the insurance that you have.

  2. Insurance companies: You could also contact your insurance company and inquire about the providers that accept your insurance.

  3. Online: Websites such as psychologytoday.com and www.zocdoc.com offer a sophisticated and uncomplicated way of finding therapists based on areas of expertise, languages spoken, location, insurances the therapists are paneled with, and availability for new patients. Both websites contain detailed information about providers and a description of the therapist’s style, experiences, and specialties. Zocdoc allows you to schedule an initial appointment with a provider on the website itself, whereas Psychology Today allows you to contact the therapist through phone/email for a free initial consult.

  4. Hospitals and Organizations: Many behavioral health programs in hospitals and community centers are not listed on the above-listed websites. You could search online for any organizations in your neighborhood or contact them directly to learn more about any services that you may be interested in.

  5. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness): You could call the NAMI helpline at 563.0445 to obtain behavioral health services referrals.
